A heavy emphasis on verticality and direct attacking defines the Inter lineup in this 4-2-4 formation. This setup looks to overwhelm the opposition through aggressive numbers in the final third. By committing so many bodies forward, the team seeks to force turnovers in high areas and strike quickly before the defense can settle.

The goalkeeper sits behind a back four that must maintain discipline while the rest of the team pushes up. Akanji acts as the left central defender, often providing cover and using his strength to intercept passes. Beside him, Bissect occupies the right central defender spot to help build play from the back. Bastoni operates as the left back and frequently pushes higher to support the midfield, while the right back provides the necessary width to balance the defensive line.

In the center of the pitch, a double pivot provides the link between the defense and the attack. Barella operates in the right central midfield role, using his high pressing intensity and engine to cover ground and break lines with his passing. He is joined by Zielinski in the left central midfield position, who helps to connect the play and drive the ball forward into the attacking half. These two must work hard to track back and protect the central area when possession is lost.

The attacking unit consists of four players designed to pin the opposition back. Dimarco occupies the left wing and looks to cut inside or deliver crosses into the box. On the right side, the winger provides width to stretch the defensive line. Lautaro leads the line as the primary striker, often dropping deep to hold up the ball and link play. This formation offers massive advantages in terms of offensive pressure. Inter can create wide overloads by having Dimarco and the wingers occupy different vertical lanes, making it difficult for full backs to mark them. The presence of four attackers allows the team to press in coordinated waves, making it very hard for the opponent to play out from the back. The speed of transition becomes a major weapon when Barella or Zielinski win the ball and immediately find the front four.
