Raya/Seimen (GK) · Calafiori/Hincapié (LB) · Gabriel/Valdepeñas (CB) · Saliba/Mosquera (CB) · Timber/White (RB) · Zubimendi/Nørgaard (DM) · Rice/Merino/Eze (LCM) · Ødegaard/Güler/Goretzka (RCM) · Yıldız/Martinelli (LW) · Saka/Madueke (RW) · Gyökeres/Havertz/Esposito (CF)Prioritizing defensive solidity and quick transitions, Arsenal operates with a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup relies on a heavy presence in the defensive third to absorb pressure before breaking lines with direct vertical passes. The team looks to control games through compactness, making it difficult for opponents to find space between the lines while maintaining enough numbers forward to punish mistakes.
David Raya starts in goal to manage the back line. The defensive unit works as a back three, with Zubimendi acting as the central anchor to sweep up loose balls and dictate the depth. Gabriel provides strength and aerial dominance on the left, while Saliba covers the right side with his ability to intercept passes and step up to intercept runners. Timber works as the right wing back to provide width and overlap, whereas Calafiori functions as the left wing back to push higher or tuck in to help the midfield.
The midfield consists of a two man central pairing tasked with controlling the tempo. Ødegaard operates on the right to create chances and find gaps in the opposition defense with his passing range, while Rice works on the left to shield the back three and cover ground during defensive transitions. This pair must stay connected to ensure the team does not get bypassed easily when the opposition breaks through the first line of pressure.
In the attacking third, the team employs three forwards to stretch the pitch. Saka stays wide on the right to cut inside and threaten the goal, while Yıldız occupies the left flank to push the defensive line back. Gyökeres leads the line as the lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and allow the wingers to join the attack. This front three must press in unison to force turnovers high up the pitch.
Arsenal gains a major advantage through their ability to create wide overloads when Timber and Saka move together on the right flank. The formation also offers great protection against counter attacks because the three central defenders and two central midfielders create a dense block that is hard to penetrate. This allows the team to commit more bodies forward without leaving the goalkeeper exposed.
This 5-2-3 formation provides a secure base for teams that want to dominate through control and sudden bursts of pace. It is a perfect tactical choice for facing high pressing opponents or teams that rely heavily on wide attacks.
