Starting Lineup
JOSÉ (SÁ) · JACKSON (TCHATCHOUA) · LADISLAV (KREJCI) · SANTIAGO (BUENO) · DAVID (MOLLER WOLFE) · ANDRÉ · JOÃO (GOMES) · MATEUS (MANÉ) · HEE-CHAN (HWANG) · TOLU (AROKODARE) · ADAM (ARMSTRONG)A heavy emphasis on directness and high pressure defines the Wolves lineup in this 4-2-4 formation. This system aims to catch opponents off guard by pushing players high up the pitch to pin the opposition back. Wolves look to win the ball early and transition quickly through the center or out wide to exploit spaces behind the defensive line.
In the defensive third, JOSÉ stays between the posts to organize the back line. A flat back four acts as the foundation, with Santiago and Ladislav operating as the central pair. Santiago and Ladislav must stay compact to cover the space behind the midfield, while David and Jackson provide the width from the flanks. David and Jackson are expected to push up to support the attack, which leaves the central defenders to drop and cover when the ball is lost.
The midfield operates as a double pivot to provide balance in the center of the pitch. André and João sit in front of the defense to shield the back four and intercept passes. André acts as the primary anchor, while João looks to drive forward and connect the play to the front four. This two man unit must work hard to track runners and ensure the team does not get overrun when the attacking players press high.
An aggressive attacking front line carries out the main work in the final third. Wolves use two wide attackers, Mateus and Hee-chan, to stretch the opposition. Mateus cuts inside from the left to create passing lanes, while Hee-chan uses his movement to find gaps in the defense. At the center, Tolu and Adam operate as two forwards, either looking to hold up the ball or run in behind the defenders to finish crosses.
This formation provides significant tactical advantages through its ability to press high in coordinated waves. By placing four players in the attacking zone, Wolves can force turnovers deep in the opponent half. Another strength is the ability to create wide overloads, as David and Jackson overlap the wingers to overwhelm full backs. The team can also isolate Hee-chan and Mateus in one on one situations when they receive the ball in advanced positions.
Wolves rely on this high intensity lineup to overwhelm teams that try to build play from the back. It remains a potent choice for matches where quick transitions and verticality are needed to break down a low block.
