A high pressing intent defines Athletic through their 4-3-3 formation. This lineup focuses on quick transitions and verticality to catch opponents out of position. The team looks to win the ball high up the pitch and move it forward rapidly to the front three.

የሱፍ stays between the posts to organize the back four. A flat back four consists of ያሬድ on the left and አሽናፊ on the right, while ቢንያም and በረከት occupy the central roles. ያሬድ and አሽናፊ are expected to push high to provide width, while ቢንያም and በረከት maintain a high line to compress the space. The defensive unit must work closely to intercept passes and ensure they do not get caught out during transitions.

The midfield works to control the central areas through a combination of roles. አንዋር acts as the attacking midfielder to link the middle to the front line. ፖግባ and ሃብታሙ occupy the central roles to shield the defense and drive the ball forward. These players must press hard to win back possession and then quickly find the runners in advanced positions.

Athletic employs three attackers to stretch the opposition. አቤል leads the line as the lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and bring others into play. On the wings, ሃሰን and ቤዛ act as wide attackers who cut inside to create goal scoring chances. These players press the opposition full backs intensely to force turnovers near the opponent goal.

One major advantage of this lineup is the ability to create wide overloads when ያሬድ and አሽናፊ overlap the wingers. The team can also press high in coordinated waves, using the front three and the midfield to suffocate the opponent. This creates a heavy presence in the final third and forces the opposition to sit deep.

This 4-3-3 formation relies on intense running and vertical passing to break lines. It is most effective against teams that play a high line or struggle to handle pressure in their own half.
