Starting Lineup
LAUTARO (Pio Esposito) · BONNY (Gnonto *) · LEWELING * (Diouf, Massolin) · DIMARCO (Sessegnon *) · BAKU * (Kamate) · ZIELINSKI (Sucic, Samu Costa *) · BARELLA (A.Stankovic *) · BASTONI (Alexiou) · AKANJI (Süle *) · BISSECK (Van Hecke *) · ATUBOLU * (Josep)A heavy emphasis on directness and verticality defines the Inter lineup in this 3-4-3 formation. This system works to control large areas of the pitch through aggressive pressing and quick transitions. By using three central defenders and a strong midfield engine, the team seeks to overwhelm opponents in both phases of play.
At the back, Atubolu stands between the posts to manage the defensive line. A back three consisting of Bisseck, Akanji, and Bastoni provides a solid foundation for the defensive unit. Akanji acts as a central anchor, while Bisseck and Bastoni cover the wider spaces to intercept passes and win aerial duels. The wide midfielders, Dimarco and Baku, act as wing backs that push high up the pitch to provide width, but they must track back to help the defense when facing wide attacks.
The midfield functions as a central engine room built around a central pairing. Barella and Zielinski operate in the middle to connect the defense to the front line. Barella drives forward with high intensity to break the lines, while Zielinski helps to control the tempo and switch play. This duo works to shield the three defenders and ensures that the team maintains control of the ball in the middle third.
In the attacking phase, Inter employs three forwards to stretch the opposition. Lautaro leads the line as the lone striker, using his movement to hold up the ball and create space. On the flanks, Leweling and Bonny act as wide attackers who cut inside to threaten the goal. This trio presses high to force turnovers, with Leweling and Bonny looking to exploit the spaces created when Lautaro drops deep to link play.
One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads through the movement of Dimarco and Baku. When these wing backs overlap, they force the opposition to defend deep, creating more room for the midfielders to run into. The team also benefits from the speed of transition, as the combination of Barella and the fast front three allows for quick attacks immediately after winning the ball.
Inter relies on a high press and vertical movement to dominate games. This 3-4-3 formation is most effective against teams that struggle to play through a crowded midfield or against opponents that leave space behind their defensive line.
