Starting Lineup

Adam · Hank · Alex · Owen · Liam · Cam · Kyler · Luke · Greyson · Ford · Keaton

A high pressing and vertical identity defines Sporting KC and their 4-3-3 formation. This lineup focuses on winning the ball high up the pitch and quickly breaking the lines to catch opponents out of position. By staying compact and aggressive, the team seeks to control the tempo through directness rather than slow buildup play.

Keaton guards the goal and organizes the back four as they maintain a high line. Luke and Greyson act as the central defenders, where Luke covers the right side and Greyson holds the left. Ford pushes forward from the left back position to provide width, while Kyler operates on the right to overlap and deliver crosses. The defensive unit works together to squeeze the space between the lines and ensure nobody can turn easily in the final third.

In the center of the pitch, the midfield works to control the middle third through a mix of roles. Hank and Owen occupy the central positions to shield the defense and intercept passes. Alex acts as the attacking midfielder, pushing into pockets of space to connect the midfield to the forward line. This trio must work hard to track back when possession is lost and quickly transition when they win the ball back.

The attacking front line consists of three players designed to stretch the opposition. Cam and Liam operate as wide wingers, with Cam on the left and Liam on the right, both looking to cut inside or beat their markers. Adam leads the line as the lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and make runs into the channels. This attacking unit presses heavily from the front to force turnovers near the opponent's goal.

One major advantage for Sporting KC is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to build from the back. The team also creates wide overloads when Ford and Kyler push up to support the wingers. This allows the side to isolate Liam and Cam in one on one situations, creating frequent opportunities to cross the ball into the box.

This 4-3-3 formation relies on intense running and quick transitions to overwhelm the opposition. It is best suited for games against teams that try to play out from the back and struggle under heavy pressure.
