East Bengal Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Rajdeep (GK) · Rajdeep (RB) · Jalal (CB) · Riddhi (LB) · Joy (CDM) · Kaushik (LCM) · Shouvonik (RCM) · Sap (CF) · Souvik (LB) · Sayantan (RB) · Diby (CF)A high pressing and aggressive style of play defines this East Bengal lineup in a 2-4-4 formation. This setup focuses on overwhelming the opponent in the final third through constant pressure and rapid transitions. East Bengal seeks to pin the opposition back by pushing many bodies forward to disrupt the build up play of the other side.
Sayantan acts as the lone goalkeeper to oversee the defensive actions from the back. The defensive unit consists of a narrow back two with Souvik and Diby acting as the central defenders. These two must stay compact and cover a lot of ground because the formation leaves little protection behind them. They need to intercept long balls and tackle any players who manage to break the first line of pressure.
In the middle of the park, a four man midfield creates a dense block to control the center. Sap sits deep to shield the two defenders, while Joy operates alongside the central midfielders to help maintain control. Shouvonik and Kaushik push into the half spaces to drive the ball forward and link the defense to the attack. This group works to win the ball back quickly and pass it immediately to the forwards.
The attacking line is composed of four players designed to stretch the opposition. Riddhi and Rajdeep occupy the wide areas as wingers to provide width and deliver crosses into the box. In the central areas, Jalal and Rajdeep act as the forwards to hold up the ball and finish chances. These four players press high up the pitch to force mistakes from the opposing defenders.
One major advantage of this 2-4-4 is the ability to create numerical superiority in the attacking zones. By pushing Shouvonik and Kaushik high, the team can overload the midfield and isolate defenders. Another strength is the intense pressing in waves, where the forwards and midfielders work together to trap the opponent in their own half. This makes it very difficult for the opposition to find a clean pass out of the back.
This formation prioritizes offensive pressure and high energy to dominate the ball. It is best suited for games where the team needs to chase a result against a side that sits deep.
