The wing backs, Dimarco and Dumfries, push high up the pitch to provide width, which requires the central defenders to step up and manage the space behind them.

The midfield operates in a central block to control the tempo and protect the defense. Barella drives forward from the right side of the midfield duo, using his high pressing intensity to disrupt the opposition. Zielinski links the play from the left, helping to connect the defenders to the attackers.
