Ferrería and Nahuel Herrera occupy the central defender roles to cover space and mark attackers. Gularte and Olivera must track back quickly to ensure the defensive unit stays compact when the opposition pushes high.

The midfield features a five man unit that covers the entire width of the pitch. Remedi and Indio Fernández act as a double pivot to shield the defense and intercept passes. Darias and Cabrera work in the half spaces to connect the deep players to the attack. Leo Fernández operates further up to create chances and link the midfield to the lone striker.

Peñarol relies on a lone striker in Arezo to lead the line. Because the team uses a single attacker, the front line relies on heavy pressing to disrupt the opposition buildup. Arezo must hold up the ball to allow the five midfielders to push up the pitch. The wide midfielders must tuck inside to create a central presence while ensuring they cover the flanks.
