Como Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Nico Paz · Butez · Diego Carlos · Kempf · Alex Valle · Douvikas · Perrone · Jesus Rodriguez · Da Cunha · Smolcic · VojvodaComo plays with a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to play an aggressive, high press game that focuses on verticality. The goal is to force errors in the opposition half and use the heavy attacking presence to score quickly through direct play.
Butez operates between the posts to command his area. The defensive unit sits in a flat back four. Diego Carlos and Kempf form the center of the defense, with Diego Carlos using his aerial strength to win headers and his ability to intercept passes. Alex Valle acts as an attacking full back to overlap on the left, while Smolcic provides cover on the right. The back line must step up together to maintain a high line and keep the pitch compact.
The midfield works as a double pivot. Perrone and Da Cunha occupy the central spaces to bridge the gap between the defense and the attackers. To shield the back four, Perrone must track back when the team loses possession. Da Cunha is the player who looks to drive forward and break the line with vertical passes. They need to cover a lot of ground because the two midfielders are often outnumbered by the opposition in the middle.
The attacking unit features four players positioned high up the pitch. Vojvoda and Jesus Rodriguez provide the width on the wings. On the right, Vojvoda looks to push wide and deliver crosses, while Jesus Rodriguez likes to cut inside to create danger. Nico Paz and Douvikas operate as two central forwards. While Nico Paz works to hold up the ball for others, Douvikas makes sharp runs into the box to finish chances. To win the ball back, the four attackers press the opposition defenders relentlessly.
This formation offers great tactical advantages. One major strength is the ability to create wide overloads when the full backs push up to join the wingers. Another advantage is the speed of transition, as the team can move from a defensive block to a full attack in seconds. The heavy presence of four forwards makes it difficult for the opponent to mark everyone in the box during a cross or a quick break.
This 4-2-4 formation is a high risk, high reward system centered on aggressive attacking. It is best suited for Como when they need to overwhelm a defensive opponent or when they must hunt for goals late in a match.
