Milan Football Formation
Starting Lineup
JJ · Gil · Con · Waddaa · Prub · Buck · Rich · Mikey · Scottish Mikey · Dean · CrossMilan uses a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to play a high press and use quick vertical passes to catch teams out of position. The system relies on controlling the middle of the pitch and using wide players to provide width while the central players break the lines.
Cross acts as the goalkeeper to start the build up. The defensive line consists of a back three with Gil, Dean, and Con. Dean and Con act as the wide central defenders to cover the channels, while Gil sits more centrally to lead the line. This trio functions to block crosses and intercept passes, often stepping up to squeeze the space between the defense and the midfield.
The midfield is a central engine that uses a combination of roles to control the tempo. Waddaa plays as the attacking ten to connect the midfield to the forwards. Prub and Buck work to shield the defense and win second balls, while JJ and Mikey operate as wide midfielders who must track back to defend and push forward to support the attack. This group works to keep the ball in central areas before looking to switch play to the flanks.
Milan utilizes two forwards in the attacking third. Scottish Mikey and Rich operate as the two strikers, often working in tandem to hold up the ball and allow the midfielders to join the play. They use their movement to drag defenders out of position, creating space for Waddaa to run into. The two forwards also lead the press, forcing the opposition to play long balls.
One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads when JJ and Mikey push up to join the attack. Another strength is the numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch, which helps the team dominate possession. The three central defenders also provide compactness when defending a deep block, making it hard for opponents to find gaps between the lines.
This 3-5-2 formation is a high energy system that focuses on central control and aggressive pressing. It is best suited for games against teams that play a back four and struggle to manage the extra man in midfield.
