The midfield functions as a central duo. André works in the pivot role to shield the defense and intercept passes. Barella plays beside him to drive forward and connect the midfield to the attack with high energy. This pair works to control the tempo and switch play to the wide areas. The attacking unit uses three players to press the opposition back line. Pio Esposito plays as a lone striker to hold up the ball and act as a target.
