Milan uses a 2-5-3 formation that relies on a heavy high press and rapid verticality. This lineup is built to dominate the central areas of the pitch and force turnovers high up the field. By squeezing the space between the lines, Milan aims to win the ball back quickly to catch the opposition before they can settle.

Plizzari stays between the posts to organize the defensive unit. Behind the midfield, Coppola and Scalvini form a back two that acts as a high line to compress the playing area. Coppola provides presence in the air while Scalvini acts as a ball playing defender to start attacks. Because there are only two central defenders, they must step up to intercept long balls and cover wide areas when the midfield is bypassed.

The midfield is a dense block of five players that controls the center. Bartesaghi and Palestra work as a double pivot to shield the back two and disrupt play. Casadei and Jashari occupy the half spaces to drive forward and break the line with vertical passes. Guerra operates as the attacking ten, sitting just behind the forwards to create chances and connect the midfield to the attack.

Milan employs three attackers to stretch the defense. Kean acts as the lone striker to hold up the ball and occupy the central defenders. On the flanks, Cisse plays as an inverted winger on the left to cut inside and create space, while Diao operates on the right to provide width. This front three is tasked with pressing the opposition backline to prevent them from playing out from the back.

One major advantage of this formation is the numerical superiority in the center of the pitch which makes it hard for opponents to pass through. The five midfielders can swarm the ball carrier to force mistakes. Another strength is the ability to isolate players in one on one situations when Cisse or Diao receive the ball in wide areas. The compactness of the midfield also helps the team transition from defense to attack with speed.

This 2-5-3 formation creates a high pressing identity that demands constant energy. It is best suited for games against teams that struggle to play under pressure or rely on a slow buildup.
