Belgium plays a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built for a high press and rapid vertical transitions. The goal is to push the team high up the pitch to win the ball back quickly and use the front four to attack the opponent with speed and intensity.

T.Courtois acts as the last line of defense in goal. The back line stays relatively high to support the pressure. M.De Cuyper operates as an attacking left back to provide width, while T.Meunier provides support from the right side. In the center, B.Mechele and Z.Debast hold the line, with B.Mechele using his aerial strength to defend crosses. The defensive unit must shift together to prevent the opponent from playing through the middle.

The midfield consists of a double pivot. Y.Tielemens (C) sits in the middle to control the tempo and provide passing range. Alongside him, N.Raskin works to break the line and drive forward into space. This duo links the defense to the attack by recycling possession and making quick passes to the forwards. They must cover significant ground to protect the back four when the team loses the ball.

The attacking unit is very aggressive with four players. J.Doku and L.Trossard operate as wide players, with J.Doku using his dribbling style to beat defenders on the wing. K.De Bruyne and C.De Ketelaere play as two central forwards. K.De Bruyne uses his passing range to create chances, while the forwards work to press the opposition defenders immediately. This formation forces the opponent to defend deep in their own half.

Belgium gains a massive advantage through their ability to press high in coordinated waves. The front four can suffocate the opposition, forcing turnovers in dangerous areas. Another strength is the ability to isolate wide players in one on one situations, especially when J.Doku gets into space. The heavy presence in the final third creates constant pressure on the opposing center backs.

This 4-2-4 formation is a high risk, high reward lineup. It is best suited for games where Belgium needs to break down a low block or exploit an opponent that struggles with defensive transitions.
