PSG Football Formation
Starting Lineup
MBAPPÉ (Kylian) · GINOLA (David) · DEMBÉLÉ (Ousmane) · FERNÁNDEZ (Luis) · GUÉRIN (Vincent) · ROCHETEAU (Dominique) · JALLET (Christophe) · ROCHE (Alain) · ARMAND (Sylvain) · KIMPEMBE (Presnel) · BATS (Joel)PSG uses a 4-2-4 formation to play a very vertical game. This lineup is built to attack with heavy numbers and push the play into the opposition half as quickly as possible. The goal is to overwhelm the defensive line through direct movement and rapid ball progression.
BATS stays between the posts to manage the defensive line. The back four stays relatively flat to maintain compactness. KIMPEMBE and ROCHE act as the central defenders, with KIMPEMBE providing aerial strength and physical presence. ARMAND works on the left to provide width or tuck in, while JALLET stays on the right. The back line must step up together to keep the distance between the defense and the midfield small.
The midfield uses a double pivot to control the center of the pitch. FERNÁNDEZ and GUÉRIN are the two players tasked with holding the middle. FERNÁNDEZ needs to shield the defense and intercept passes, while GUÉRIN looks to break the line with forward runs or quick passes. These two must work hard to track back when the team loses the ball to prevent being caught out on the counter.
In the attacking phase, PSG relies on four players positioned high up the pitch. MBAPPÉ and ROCHETEAU act as the central forwards, with MBAPPÉ using his explosive pace and dribbling to run behind defenders. GINOLA and DEMBÉLÉ play as wide attackers. DEMBÉLÉ likes to cut inside from the right to create goalscoring chances, while GINOLA provides width on the left. This front four is designed to press high and force mistakes near the opponent's goal.
This formation offers the advantage of creating constant pressure in the final third. By having four attackers, the team can isolate wide players in one on one situations. Another strength is the speed of transition, as the players can move from a defensive block to a full attack in just a few passes. The double pivot of FERNÁNDEZ and GUÉRIN provides a layer of protection that allows the forwards to stay high.
The 4-2-4 formation is a high risk, high reward lineup focused on heavy offensive pressure. It is best suited for games where PSG needs to break down a deep sitting opponent through sheer numbers.
