Inter plays with a 2-4-4 formation that focuses on heavy verticality and aggressive offensive numbers. This lineup is built to overwhelm the opposition by pushing almost the entire team into the final third. Inter aims to use high numbers in the attacking zone to pin opponents back and force mistakes through constant pressure.

L.Martinez starts in goal to command the area and sweep up long balls behind the high line. The defensive unit consists of a two man central pairing with N.Williams and M.Diaby. These two central defenders must stay narrow to protect the middle while being ready to step up and intercept through balls. Because there are no traditional full backs, the defensive unit relies on the midfielders and the two center backs to cover the wide channels and prevent easy switches of play.

The midfield operates as a flat four to control the center of the pitch and provide links between the back line and the attack. Locker-Telly and M.Koné occupy the central roles to shield the two defenders and break up play. Dan'doje plays on the right side to provide width, while Dimarco operates on the left. This midfield group must work hard to track back and cover the spaces left behind during transitions. They are responsible for winning the ball and immediately looking to break the line with forward passes.

The attack is very heavy with four players positioned high up the pitch. Gila and Vicario act as two central forwards to occupy the opposition center backs and hold up the ball. On the flanks, Solet plays on the right and Pavard plays on the left to provide width and create crossing opportunities. This four man front line is designed to press high and force the opposition into hurried clearances, allowing the attackers to hunt for second balls near the penalty area.

This formation offers significant advantages through extreme offensive overload and numerical superiority in the attacking half. By having four players constantly threatening the box, Inter can create chaos and isolate defenders in one on one situations. The heavy presence in the final third makes it very difficult for opponents to build play from the back, as the front four can press in coordinated waves to regain possession quickly.

This 2-4-4 formation is a high risk, high reward system built for total offensive dominance. It is best suited for games where the opponent sits deep and lacks the pace to exploit the large spaces behind the two central defenders.
