Starting Lineup
PIO ESPOSITO (Bonny) · LAUTARO (Arribas *, Topalovic) · DIABY * (Kamate) · DIMARCO (Leweling *) · BISSECK (Baku *) · ANDRÉ * (A.Stankovic *) · BARELLA (Zielinski, Sucic) · BASTONI (Cocchi) · LACROIX * (Alexiou) · AKANJI (Van Hecke *) · ATUBOLU * (Josep)Inter plays a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup focuses on a high press and heavy verticality. It is built to overwhelm opponents through a rapid transition and direct attacking movements that target the spaces behind the opposition defense.
ATUBOLU acts as the last line of defense in goal. The back line consists of a flat back four with BASTONI at left back and BISSECK at right back. BASTONI is known for his long passing range and ability to step up into midfield. AKANJI and LACROIX form the central pairing, where AKANJI provides aerial strength and LACROIX acts as a covering defender. The wide defenders push high to provide width, while the center backs stay compact to protect the middle.
The midfield operates as a double pivot to control the center of the pitch. ANDRÉ sits deeper to shield the defense and intercept passes, while BARELLA works to drive forward and connect the lines. BARELLA uses his pressing intensity to win the ball back quickly. This duo must hold their positions to prevent being bypassed during transitions, as the rest of the team pushes high up the pitch.
Inter uses four attackers to pin back the opposition. LAUTARO and PIO ESPOSITO lead the line as two central forwards, tasked with holding up the ball and making runs into the box. DIMARCO operates on the left wing, often cutting inside to create extra numbers in the middle, while DIABY provides width and pace on the right. This front line is designed to press the opponent's back line immediately upon losing possession.
This formation offers clear tactical advantages. The team creates wide overloads when BASTONI and DIMARCO push forward together. It also allows for high pressing in coordinated waves, using the four attackers to force mistakes near the opponent's goal. By playing with two strikers, the team can isolate wide players in one on one situations more effectively.
This 4-2-4 formation relies on intense pressure and rapid vertical play. It is best suited for games where Inter needs to break down a low block or exploit a team that struggles with high intensity transitions.
