Inter utilizes a 4-2-4 formation to drive a high press and rapid verticality. The team aims to pin the opponent in their own half by using a heavy frontline to force turnovers. This lineup is built to play a direct style of football where the ball moves quickly from the back to the front four. It is a bold way to play that relies on winning the ball high up the pitch to catch the opposition before they can sit deep.

ATUBOLU guards the goal while the defense maintains a flat back four. AKANJI and LACROIX act as the central defenders, with AKANJI using his aerial strength and ability to read the game to clear danger. BASTONI plays as a ball playing left back who can step up into the midfield to help build play. BISSECK covers the right flank and must track back to assist the defensive unit. The whole back line must shift together to block passing lanes and protect the center.

The midfield operates with a double pivot to control the center of the pitch. ANDRÉ plays the role of the primary shield to protect the central area. BARELLA uses his high work rate and passing range to drive the team forward and connect the lines. This pair is tasked to intercept passes and immediately look to switch play to the attackers. They must be ready to drop deep or push up to manage the gaps created by the offensive players.

The attacking unit consists of four players who provide width and central presence. DIABY and DIMARCO act as wide attackers to stretch the opposition defense. DIMARCO can cut inside to support the strikers if the space opens up. In the middle, LAUTARO and PIO ESPOSITO function as two central forwards. LAUTARO uses his pressing intensity and movement to harass defenders while PIO ESPOSITO works to hold up the ball and bring others into play.

One major advantage of this Inter formation is the ability to press high in coordinated waves. Having four players in the final third makes it very difficult for the opposition to move the ball out of their own half. Another strength is the potential for wide overloads. When BASTONI and DIMARCO push up, they create extra numbers on the left side to help DIABY and LAUTARO. This forces the defense to shift and creates space for the strikers to run into.

This 4-2-4 lineup represents a very aggressive and vertical identity. It is best suited for games where the team needs to overwhelm a defensive opponent through sheer numbers in the attacking third.
