Starting Lineup

Mendes · Hakimi · Pacho · Marquinhos · Zabarnyi · Vitinha · Tonali · G. Ramos · Kvaratskhelia · Dembélé · Safonov

PSG plays with a 3-4-3 formation that focuses on a heavy high press and rapid transitions. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and move the play forward with speed. The team looks to dominate the ball and catch the opponent out of position before they can settle into a defensive block.

Safonov protects the goal within a back three formation. Marquinhos (C), the captain, leads the defense as the central figure, using his positional sense to cover the space behind his teammates. Zabarnyi and Pacho occupy the right and left central defender roles, with Zabarnyi using his strength and Pacho looking to intercept passes. Hakimi and Mendes act as wing backs, pushing high to provide width in the attacking phase and tracking back to help the defense when the ball is lost.

The midfield consists of a four man unit that links the defensive line to the attack. Vitinha and Tonali occupy the central spaces, where Vitinha uses his passing range to control the tempo and switch play. Tonali works to shield the defense and break the line with his ball winning abilities. Hakimi and Mendes provide the necessary width, allowing the team to stretch the opponent. This midfield block can shift quickly to cover the flanks or compress the center to protect the back three.

In the final third, PSG employs three attackers to pressure the opposition. Kvaratskhelia and Dembélé act as wide attackers who look to cut inside and threaten the goal. Dembélé uses his dribbling to drive at the defense, while Kvaratskhelia finds space between the lines. G. Ramos operates as the lone striker, using his presence to hold up the ball and lay it off to the runners. The front three press intensely to force turnovers in dangerous areas.

This formation offers several tactical advantages, such as the ability to create wide overloads through the runs of Hakimi and Mendes. This movement puts immense pressure on the opposing full backs. The team also benefits from the ability to press high in coordinated waves, using the front three to squeeze the opponent. Having Vitinha and Tonali in the center provides a strong base to prevent being caught on the break during transitions.

This 3-4-3 formation is designed for aggressive, high pressing football. It is best suited for games where PSG wants to overwhelm an opponent through width and superior numbers in the attacking half.
