Inter plays with a 4-2-4 formation. This lineup is built to play a very vertical game that relies on direct passing and high pressure. The club looks to overwhelm the opponent in the final third by committing many players forward to exploit gaps between lines.

At the back, Atubolu guards the goal. The defensive unit works as a flat back four to maintain compactness. Akanji and Lacroix act as the central defenders, with Akanji providing aerial strength and Lacroix covering the space behind. Bastisseck operates as the right back to hold the width, while Bastoni plays as the left back and uses his passing range to start attacks from deep.

The midfield operates as a double pivot to provide a base for the rest of the team. André acts as the defensive shield to intercept passes and protect the back four. Barella works alongside him to drive forward into the half spaces and connect the defense to the attack. This duo must work hard to track back and cover the large spaces left behind during transitions.

The attack is composed of four players that create massive pressure. Dimarco plays on the left wing and looks to cut inside to create chances, while Diaby operates on the right to stretch the pitch. Lautaro and Pio Esposito play as two forwards, with Lautaro often pressing high and looking to break the line with his movements. This front four is designed to pin the opposition defense deep in their own half.

One major strength for Inter is the ability to create wide overloads when the full backs push up to support the wingers. The formation also allows for high pressing in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to build play from the back. By using two strikers, the team can also isolate wide players in one on one situations during quick transitions.
