Starting Lineup
PIO ESPOSITO (Bonny) · LAUTARO (Chaïbi *, Topalovic) · DIABY * (Kamate) · GNONTO * (Dimarco) · BISSECK (Baku *) · ANDRÉ * (A.Stankovic *) · BARELLA (Zielinski, Sucic) · BASTONI (Cocchi) · LACROIX * (Alexiou) · AKANJI (Van Hecke *) · ATUBOLU * (Josep)Inter uses a 4-2-4 formation designed for a high press and rapid verticality. This lineup focuses on overwhelming the opponent in the final third by pushing high up the pitch to win the ball back quickly. The goal is to use heavy pressure to force turnovers and strike before the opposition can settle.
ATUBOLU starts in goal to command the area during transitions. The back line operates with a high line to compress the space in the middle of the pitch. BASTONI acts as an attacking left back who can push up to support the wingers, while BISSECK provides defensive width on the right. In the center, AKANJI uses his pace to cover space and BISSECK helps hold the line. LACROIX works alongside AKANJI to ensure the defense stays compact when the team sits deep.
The midfield functions as a double pivot to provide a base for the attacking players. ANDRÉ works to shield the defense and intercept passes before they reach the back four. BARELLA plays a box to box role, using his high pressing intensity and ability to break the line with progressive passes to connect the defense to the attack. This two man unit must work hard to cover the gaps left when the full backs move forward.
The front line consists of four attackers designed to stretch the opposition. DIABY operates on the right wing and GNONTO stays wide on the left to provide width and stretch the defensive block. LAUTARO and PIO ESPOSITO act as the two central forwards, with LAUTARO often dropping slightly deeper to hold up the ball and link play. This attacking quartet presses in unison to prevent the opposition from playing out from the back.
Inter gains a significant advantage through wide overloads when BASTONI or BISSECK overlap the wingers. The formation also allows for intense pressing in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to find time on the ball. By playing with two central strikers, the team can isolate defenders in one on one situations and create chaos in the penalty area.
This 4-2-4 formation is built for aggressive, high tempo football. It is best suited for games where Inter needs to break down a low block through sheer numbers and constant pressure.
