Slovan Liberec Football Formation
Starting Lineup
KOUBEK · ICHA · DRAKPE · N’GUESSAN · KAYONDO · STRÁNSKÝ · DIAKITÉ · MASOPUST · SOLIU · MAHMIĆ · KROLLISSlovan Liberec utilize a 4-5-1 formation that leans heavily on a congested midfield. This lineup is built to play a compact game where the team stays close together to deny space between the lines. The primary goal is to frustrate opponents through a mid block and wait for the right moment to hit them on the break.
Koubek acts as the last line of defense in goal. In front of him, the back four remains relatively flat to maintain team cohesion. Icha plays as the right back to provide stability, while Kayondo occupies the left back position. The central pairing of Drakpe and N’guessan focuses on holding the line and covering ground. Drakpe and N’guessan must track runs and dominate in the air to protect the area around Koubek.
The midfield functions as a five man unit designed to dominate the center of the pitch. Diakité and Stránský sit in a double pivot to shield the defense and intercept passes. Moving slightly higher, Masopust and Soliu operate to connect the deeper players with the attack. Mahmić plays as an attacking ten, looking to find pockets of space between the opponent midfield and defense. This unit must work hard to shift as a block and cover gaps when teammates push forward.
Up top, Krollis acts as a lone striker who must hold up the ball to allow the midfield to move up the pitch. He works to press the opposition defenders and create space for Mahmić to run into. The attack relies on the service from the wide midfielders and the ability of Krollis to bring others into play. Slovan Liberec use the width of the pitch through the midfield to pull defenders out of position before attempting to break the line.
This formation offers clear tactical advantages such as numerical superiority in the center of the pitch. By packing the middle, the team can congest passing lanes and force opponents to play wide. Another strength is the compactness when defending, making it very difficult for teams to play through the middle. The speed of transition allows the team to move from a defensive block to an attacking move very quickly.
Slovan Liberec use this 4-5-1 to remain defensively solid while looking for clinical counter attacks. This formation is best suited for games against technically superior teams that rely on central playmaking.
