Bosnia and Herzegovina Football Formation

KOVAČEVIĆ · KATIĆ · AHMEDHODŽIĆ · GAZIBEGOVIĆ · KOLAŠINAC · HADŽIAHMETOVIĆ · KRUNIĆ · RAHMANOVIĆ · DEMIROVIĆ · SAVIĆ · KOLJIĆBosnia and Herzegovina uses a 5-2-3 formation that focuses on being defensively solid and quick on the break. The team looks to sit deep and soak up pressure before launching vertical passes to find the forwards. This formation is built to play a reactive style of football where the goal is to remain compact and exploit spaces left by opponents who push too high.
KOVAČEVIĆ acts as the last line of defense behind a back five. The central trio consists of HADŽIAHMETOVIĆ, AHMEDHODŽIĆ, and KATIĆ. HADŽIAHMETOVIĆ and AHMEDHODŽIĆ occupy the central spaces to block crosses and win aerial duels, while KATIĆ provides cover on the right side of the central block. The wide defenders, GAZIBEGOVIĆ and KOLAŠINAC, provide width and are tasked to push up the pitch as wing backs to support the attack. These wing backs must track back quickly to help the central defenders when the team loses the ball.
The midfield operates with a double pivot in the center of the pitch. KRUNIĆ and RAHMANOVIĆ work to shield the defense and break up opposition plays. KRUNIĆ uses his engine to cover ground and press opponents in the middle, while RAHMANOVIĆ connects the defensive unit to the attacking players. They must sit in the pockets of space between the defense and the forwards to intercept passes and switch play to the wide areas.
In the attacking phase, Bosnia and Herzegovina utilizes three forwards. KOLJIĆ leads the line as a lone striker to hold up the ball and contest long passes. SAVIĆ operates on the left wing and DEMIROVIĆ occupies the right wing. These attackers are expected to cut inside to create goal scoring chances or use their pace to run into channels behind the opposition defense. The front three must press high when the ball is lost to prevent the opponent from building play easily.
One major advantage of this lineup is the defensive compactness that makes it hard for opponents to find gaps between the lines. The team can create wide overloads when GAZIBEGOVIĆ and KOLAŠINAC overlap with the wingers. This allows the midfield duo to stay central and maintain control of the middle zone. Another strength is the speed of transition when the ball is won back in the middle third.
This 5-2-3 formation prioritizes a strong defensive block and rapid counter attacks. It is best suited for games against dominant teams where Bosnia and Herzegovina needs to absorb pressure and exploit gaps in the opposition defense.
