Starting Lineup

Majecki · Jędrzejczyk · Kapuadi · Fabisiak · Denisov · K.Urbanski · Ahmetovic · Szymanski (C) · Michalak · Kornelewicz · Buksa

Legia uses a 5-4-1 formation. This lineup is built to be defensively solid and focuses on a low block when the opposition has the ball. The goal is to sit deep, absorb pressure, and then use quick transitions to catch the opponent off guard. It is a formation designed to protect the central areas and remain hard to break down.

Buksa acts as the last line of defense in goal. The back line consists of three central defenders with Szymanski (C) leading the group as captain. Szymanski (C) must organize the line and command the area. Ahmetovic and K.Urbanski provide cover and physical presence in the middle. On the flanks, Michalak plays as a right wing back to provide width, while Kornelewicz operates as a left wing back. These wide players must track back to form a flat five when the team sits deep, but they can push up the pitch to support the attack during transitions.

The midfield works as a flat four to block passing lanes. Kapuadi and Fabisiak occupy the central roles to shield the back three and win second balls. They act as the engine, holding the position to prevent opponents from playing through the middle. On the wings, Denisov and Jędrzejczyk provide width and cover the wide areas. Denisov and Jędrzejczyk must track back to help the wing backs and ensure the team remains compact while defending. This midfield unit connects the deep defense to the lone striker during counter attacks.

The attacking structure relies on a lone striker, Majecki, who must hold up the ball to allow teammates to join the play. Majecki works to press the opposition defenders and disrupt their buildup. Since there are no other forwards, the width comes from the runs of Michalak and Kornelewicz. The team builds attacks by winning the ball in midfield and immediately looking to pass forward or switch play to the wide areas. Majecki must use his strength to fight for long balls and create space for the midfielders to run into.

Legia gains a tactical advantage through extreme compactness when defending in a low block. This makes it very difficult for opponents to find gaps between the lines. Another strength is the ability to create wide overloads when Michalak and Kornelewicz push up to join Denisov and Jędrzejczyk in the final third. This sudden shift from five defenders to a more attacking lineup can catch teams that push too high up the pitch.

This 5-4-1 formation creates a resilient defensive unit that is difficult to penetrate. It is best suited for matches against teams that dominate possession where Legia can exploit space on the break.
