Alajbegovic provides cover in the right central role while Pulisic stays central to mark the striker. On the flanks, Adrien Rabiot and Goretzka act as wing backs to provide width. Because there is only one forward, the midfielders like Tomori must make runs into the box to support Maignan. This setup relies on the striker to hold up the ball until the rest of the team can move up the pitch.
