Germany plays with a 2-5-3 formation that focuses on heavy ball dominance and high pressing. This lineup is built to control the middle of the pitch and suffocate the opponent in their own half. Beside him, Raum operates in a more defensive capacity to help cover the flanks. Goretzka drives forward from the right side to add power to the midfield, while Gündogan connects the play and controls the tempo. Musiala operates in the hole as an attacking midfielder, using his dribbling to break the line and find pockets of space between the opponent lines.

Up front, the attack features three players to stretch the opposition. Havertz leads the line as a lone striker, often dropping deep to hold up the ball and bring others into play. On the wings, Wirtz and Gnabry act as wide attackers who look to cut inside and create chances. This front three presses heavily to force turnovers high up the pitch, making sure the opposition cannot build play from the back.
