Arsenal utilizes a 5-2-3 formation. This lineup is built to play a high press and vertical football. The goal is to win the ball high up the pitch and immediately look to break the line. This formation allows the team to control the tempo through ball retention while staying ready to strike fast. It is a lineup intended to pin the opposition deep in their own half by maintaining a high line.

David Raya acts as the goalkeeper to start the build up from the back. The defensive unit works with a back three consisting of Martín Zubimendi, William Saliba, and Gabriel Magalhães. Saliba uses his pace and composure to cover wide areas, while Gabriel Magalhães uses his aerial strength to win headers during set pieces and crosses. Lewis Hall and Jurriën Timber act as wing backs on the left and right. They push high to provide width and overlap the attackers, but they must track back to maintain the defensive block when the team loses possession.

The midfield features a duo of two players. Declan Rice sits deeper to shield the defense and intercept passes before they reach the back line. Martin Ødegaard operates as a playmaker to connect the lines and create chances with his passing range. These two must work hard to cover the space between the midfield and the back three. They drive the ball forward to ensure the attack stays constant and help the team transition from defense to attack.

The attack uses three attackers to pin the opposition. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Bukayo Saka operate as wide wingers. Saka uses his dribbling to cut inside and threaten the goal. Juliàn Alvarez plays as a lone striker who can hold up the ball and run the channels to pull defenders out of position. The front three press in unison to force errors in the opposition half and create chances for the second ball.

One major strength is the ability to create wide overloads. When Lewis Hall and Jurriën Timber push forward, they create space for the wingers to move inside and find goal scoring opportunities. The team can also press high in coordinated waves, using the intensity of the front three and the presence of Declan Rice to win the ball back quickly. This makes the Arsenal transition very dangerous when they move from a mid block to an attacking phase.

This 5-2-3 formation is designed for aggressive, high pressing football. It is best suited for games where the team wants to suffocate an opponent in their own half or exploit space behind a high defensive line.
