Besiktas Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Robertson (Ridvan) · Pau Torres (Emirhan Topçu) · Agbadou (Djalo) · Murillo · İbrahim Sangare (Salih Özcan) · Ceballos (Emirhan İlkhan) · Orkun (Olaitan) · Gittens (Başar Önal) · Gyu Oh (İlyas Ansah) · Lukebakio (Cerny) · Berke (Ersin)Besiktas utilizes a 5-4-1 formation designed to be defensively solid. This lineup focuses on sitting deep and waiting for the opponent to commit bodies forward before looking to break the lines quickly. It is a setup built for teams that want to deny space between the lines and rely on a narrow block to frustrate attackers.
Gyu Oh starts between the posts to manage the defensive unit. The back line consists of three central defenders with İbrahim Sangare acting as the anchor to cover space. Orkun and Ceballos sit beside him to mark runners and win aerial duels. On the flanks, Gittens and Lukebakio operate as wing backs who must track back to support the defense while also providing width during transitions. This five man unit stays compact to prevent any gaps for through balls.
The midfield operates in a flat four to protect the central areas. Pau Torres and Agbadou form the central pair, with Pau Torres looking to pass the ball out from deep while Agbadou works to intercept plays and shield the back three. On the wings, Robertson and Murillo occupy the wide spaces to help the wing backs and provide outlets for the midfield. This group works to press in tandem to block passing lanes and force the opposition into wide areas.
In the attacking phase, Besiktas relies on a lone striker, Berke, to lead the line. Since there is only one forward, Berke must hold up the ball to allow the midfield and wing backs to push up the pitch. The attack is built through quick transitions where Robertson and Murillo can sprint forward to support the lone striker. The team looks to use the width provided by the wing backs to stretch the opposition defense once the ball is recovered.
This formation offers several tactical advantages, particularly in terms of compactness when defending in a low block. By having five defenders and a tight midfield four, Besiktas makes it very difficult for opponents to find space in the box. The wing backs Gittens and Lukebakio can also create wide overloads once they step up into the final third. This setup is also effective for isolating wide players in one on one situations during a fast counter attack.
The 5-4-1 formation prioritizes defensive stability and discipline above all else. It is best suited for matches where the team needs to face a technically superior opponent that dominates possession.
