Slovan Liberec Football Formation
Starting Lineup
KOUBEK · ICHA · DRAKPE · N’GUESSAN · KOŽELUH · STRÁNSKÝ · MASOPUST · HODOUŠ · MAHMIĆ · SOLIU · KROLLISSlovan Liberec operates with a 4-5-1 formation that focuses on defensive solidity and compact blocks. This lineup is built to play a reactive style where the team stays organized to deny space between the lines. They aim to remain hard to beat and look to hit opponents during transitions.
Koubek acts as the last line of defense in goal. Ahead of him, the back four maintains a relatively compact line to protect the central areas. Icha works on the right side while Koželuh covers the left, both tasked with tracking wide runners and supporting the defense. In the middle, N’guessan and Drakpe must stay close to each other to hold the line, with one player often stepping up to intercept while the other covers the space behind.
The midfield consists of five players who create a heavy block in the center of the pitch. Stránský and Masopust form a double pivot to shield the defense and break up play. Moving further forward, Soliu and Hodouš occupy the central spaces to connect the defense to the attack and press in the middle third. Mahmić plays as an attacking ten, operating in the pocket behind the striker to find pockets of space and deliver final passes.
Up top, Krollis plays as a lone striker to lead the line. He must hold up the ball and wait for support from the five midfielders to arrive. The attack is built through quick passes to Mahmić or direct balls into the channels. The wide players and central midfielders are expected to press high when the ball is lost to prevent the opponent from playing out from the back.
This formation offers several tactical advantages, such as a high level of compactness when defending in a mid block. By crowding the central areas, Slovan Liberec makes it difficult for opponents to play through the middle. The lineup also allows for quick transitions where Mahmić can immediately find Krollis or the advancing midfielders to break the lines during a counter attack.
Slovan Liberec uses this 4-5-1 formation to prioritize defensive stability and control the center of the pitch. This setup is best suited for matches against stronger sides where sitting deep and absorbing pressure is necessary.
