LAUTARO (Pio Esposito) · BAUMGARTNER * (Zielinski, Topalovic) · DIABY * (Kamate) · GNONTO * (Bonny) · BISSECK (Baku *) · ANDRÉ * (A.Stankovic *) · BARELLA (Sucic) · DIMARCO (Cocchi) · BASTONI (Akanji, Alexiou) · LACROIX * (Van Hecke *) · ATUBOLU * (Josep)Inter employs a 4-2-4 formation designed for a heavy high press and rapid vertical attacks. This lineup focuses on overwhelming the opposition in the final third by pushing as many players as possible toward the opponent's goal. Inter wants to win the ball high up the pitch and immediately look to break the line with direct passes to the four attackers.
ATUBOLU starts in goal to command the area during defensive moments. The back four relies on BASTONI and LACROIX to sit in a high line, with BASTONI acting as a ball playing defender who can pass out from the back. BISSECK and DIMARCO provide the width, with DIMARCO often looking to overlap to support the attack and BISSECK providing cover on the right. This defensive unit must step up together to catch strikers offside and keep the team compact.
The midfield consists of a double pivot to provide a bridge between the defense and the front line. ANDRÉ, who serves as the captain, sits deeper to shield the defense and intercept passes. BARELLA works alongside him to drive forward and connect the lines through his high pressing intensity and energetic running. These two must work hard to track back when the ball is lost to prevent counter attacks against the high defensive line.
In the attacking phase, the team utilizes two central forwards and two wide wingers. LAUTARO and BAUMGARTNER lead the line, with LAUTARO often holding up the ball to bring others into play. DIABY and GNONTO occupy the wide areas to stretch the defense, with DIABY looking to cut inside and create chances. This front four presses in coordinated waves to force mistakes from the opposition defenders.
A major tactical strength of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads when DIMARCO and BASTONI push forward to support the wingers. The team also benefits from numerical superiority in the attacking zone, making it difficult for back four systems to mark everyone. When the ball is won, the speed of transition allows the players to move from a defensive block to an attacking state in seconds.
This 4-2-4 formation is built for a high intensity game where the team wants to dominate territory through constant pressure. It is best suited for facing opponents who struggle to play out from the back or those who sit in a deep low block.
