Roma Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Dovbyk (DC) · Kulusevski (ED) · Nkunku (EI) · Fabian Ruiz (MP) · Kanté (MCD) · Alan Varela (MCD) · White (LD) · Rensch (LI) · Lukeba (DFC) · Mancini (DFC) · SvilarRoma uses a 2-5-3 formation to play a very aggressive and vertical style of football. This lineup relies on a massive midfield block to control the middle of the pitch and dominate the tempo of the game. The goal is to win the ball quickly in the center and push it forward toward the attackers as fast as possible.
Svilar stays between the posts to organize the back line. Behind the two central defenders, Mancini and Lukeba, the team plays a very high line to compress the space. Mancini provides aerial strength and physical presence to defend the box, while Lukeba acts as a ball playing defender to start attacks. Because there are only two players in the back, they must step up together to intercept passes and cover the space behind the midfielders.
The midfield is a crowded five man unit designed to overwhelm the opposition. White acts as the right single pivot to shield the defense and break the line with simple passes. Rensch sits on the left to provide balance and help cover the wide areas. Alan Varela and Kanté occupy the central spaces, with Kanté using his high pressing intensity and ability to intercept play to win the ball back. Fabian Ruiz plays as the attacking ten to connect the lines and drive the team forward with his passing range.
In the final third, Roma uses three attackers to pin the opposition defense back. Dovbyk acts as the lone striker to hold up the ball and provide a central target. On the wings, Nkunku and Kulusevski act as wide attackers who like to cut inside to create goal scoring chances. This attacking front line presses high, forcing the opponent to play long balls while the midfield waits to collect the second ball.
One major advantage of this formation is the numerical superiority in midfield which makes it hard for opponents to pass through the center. The lineup also creates wide overloads because the midfielders can shift quickly to support the attackers. By having five players in the middle, the team can press high in coordinated waves to trap the opponent in their own half.
This 2-5-3 formation is built for a team that wants to dominate possession and control the tempo through the center. It is best suited for games against opponents who sit deep and struggle to deal with high pressure in the midfield.
