Arsenal Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Raya · Calafiori · Gabriel · Saliba · Timber · Zubimendi · Rice · Eze · Trossard · GJ · HavertzArsenal plays a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built for a high press and heavy possession. The goal is to squeeze the pitch and force mistakes near the opponent goal. This system allows the team to control the middle of the park and stay on the front foot.
Raya starts in goal and acts as a sweeper to cover the space behind the defense. The back line features only two central defenders, Gabriel and Saliba. Saliba uses his composure to play the ball out from the back. Gabriel brings aerial strength to defend crosses and win headers. They play a very high line, requiring them to step up and intercept long balls. They must remain concentrated as they cover a lot of ground without wide defenders behind them.
The midfield consists of a five man block. Timber plays as the single pivot to shield the back two and break up play. Zubimendi operates in the right central role to help move the ball forward. Calafiori sits in the left central spot to provide extra cover. Rice plays as a left attacking midfielder and uses his ball winning ability to drive forward and break lines. Eze plays on the right side of the midfield to find pockets of space and create chances. This central group connects the defenders to the attackers.
The attack features three players in a front three. Havertz leads the line as a lone striker. He uses his intelligent movement to hold up the ball and create space for others. Trossard acts as an inverted winger on the left to cut inside and shoot. GJ stays wide on the right to stretch the defense and provide width. The front three press in a coordinated way to win the ball back quickly.
This 2-5-3 formation offers massive numerical superiority in the center of the pitch. With five players in the middle, Arsenal can easily pass around an opponent and win second balls. The formation also creates wide overloads when the midfielders push up to support the wingers. This makes it very hard for the opposition to mark everyone. The speed of transition is a huge asset when the ball is won in the middle.
This lineup is a high pressing machine built to dominate possession. It is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to play out from a high press.
