Lausanne Football Formation
Starting Lineup
XR · Timo · Ryad · Luca · Ufuk · Dja · Huso · Nassim · Nico · Fla · SenadLausanne plays with a 5-3-2 formation. This lineup is built to be a defensively solid unit that focuses on sitting deep and using verticality to break lines. The intention is to make it hard for the opponent to find space in the middle and use quick transitions to catch them out of position.
XR stays in goal to command the box and organize the defenders. The back line consists of a central trio with Dja playing in the middle to cover the space while Luca and Ufuk operate as the wider center backs. Luca and Ufuk must be ready to step up and intercept balls in the channels. Timo and Ryad act as wing backs who provide the width for the team. They must track back to mark wide players and form a compact five when the team sits deep, but they also push high to overlap when the team moves forward.
The midfield operates with a single pivot where Huso sits in front of the defense to shield the back three. Nassim and Nico play as the two central midfielders to connect the defense and the attack. Huso focuses on intercepting passes and holding his position, while Nassim and Nico drive forward to help the ball move up the pitch. They need to press the opposition in the middle to prevent easy passing and look to break the line with direct balls to the forwards.
Up front, the team uses two forwards, Fla and Senad, to lead the line. They often work together to hold up the ball and bring the midfielders into the game. Fla and Senad press the opposing center backs to disrupt their build up play. Because the team lacks traditional wingers, the attack relies on Timo and Ryad to fly forward and cross the ball into the box. This movement allows Fla and Senad to make runs into the penalty area and find space in the channels, often looking to cut inside to shoot.
A major strength of this formation is the compactness when defending in a low block. By keeping the players close together, Lausanne makes it very difficult for the opponent to play through the middle. The team also gains an advantage through wide overloads when Timo and Ryad overlap. This forces the opposition to shift their defensive position and can leave wide players in one on one situations or allow the team to switch play quickly.
This 5-3-2 formation provides a reliable way to stay hard to beat in difficult matches. It is best suited for facing teams that play with high possession and heavy attacking numbers.
