Silva operate as wing backs who need to track back deep to form a flat five when the team sits low, but they also push high to provide width.

In the midfield, the team plays with a flat four to maintain compactness. Kompany and R. Dias occupy the central roles to shield the defense and win second balls. R. Dias works to intercept passes while Kompany holds the position to prevent runners from breaking through. On the edges, Pardoe and Walker provide width and help to press the opposition wide players.
