Cruzeiro utilizes a 4-5-1 formation that relies on a compact block and quick transitions. This lineup is built to sit deep and absorb pressure before hitting teams on the break. The goal is to crowd the middle of the pitch and force opponents into wide areas where the team can recover the ball.

M. Cunha stays between the posts to command the defensive unit. Behind him, a flat back four works to maintain a tight line. Jonathan and Igor Gomes act as the central pair, with Igor Gomes providing coverage and Jonathan managing the right side of the box. On the flanks, Kauã M. and Wellington provide width and are tasked to track back and mark opposing wingers. The defensive unit must stay close together to prevent passes through the middle.

The midfield is a five man unit that acts as the engine for Cruzeiro. L. Romero and M. Henrique form a double pivot to shield the defense and intercept passes. Ahead of them, Christian, L. Sinisterra, and Wanderson occupy the central and half spaces to connect the lines. Wanderson and Christian work to drive forward and break the line with vertical passes, while L. Sinisterra helps to maintain the link between the midfield block and the lone striker.

In the attacking phase, N. Villareal operates as a lone striker. He must hold up the ball to allow the midfielders to push up the pitch. The attack is built by winning the ball in midfield and immediately looking for N. Villareal to run into space. The wide midfielders must cut inside to create central presence, while the striker presses the opponent's defenders to force errors.

This formation offers high levels of compactness when defending in a low block. By crowding the central zones, the team can achieve numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch.
