Brighton Football Formation
Starting Lineup
BART (VERBRUGGEN) · MATS (WIEFFER) · JAN PAUL (VAN HECKE) · LEWIS (DUNK) · MAXIM (DE CUYPER) · CARLOS (BALEBA) · DIEGO (GÓMEZ) · PASCAL (GROß) · YANKUBA (MINTEH) · KAORU (MITOMA) · DANNY (WELBECK)Brighton operates with a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup is built for a possession based style that relies on a high press to win the ball back quickly. The goal is to dominate the ball and control the tempo of the game through constant passing and movement to tire the opponent.
BART guards the goal and acts as the first point of distribution to start attacks. The back line sits as a flat back four where LEWIS and JAN PAUL occupy the central roles. JAN PAUL provides strength in the air while LEWIS looks to cover and intercept passes. MATS and MAXIM act as the wide defenders. MATS is expected to overlap to provide width on the right side, while MAXIM can step up to support the midfield or tuck in to help the center during transitions.
The midfield works through a central attacking ten supported by a double pivot. PASCAL operates in the hole, utilizing his passing range and set piece delivery to create chances. CARLOS and DIEGO sit in front of the back four to shield the defense and stop counter attacks. DIEGO works to drive the ball forward and break the line, while CARLOS holds his position to provide balance and cover the space left by the attacking players. This group links the defenders to the attackers through quick ball movement and constant support.
In the final third, the team uses three attackers to stretch the opposition. DANNY leads the line as a lone striker who knows how to hold up the ball and press the opposition defenders. KAORU plays on the left wing and looks to cut inside using his dribbling skills to find space. YANKUBA stays wide on the right to stretch the play and provide crosses. These movements allow PASCAL to find gaps between the lines and make runs into the box to support the attack.
This formation offers clear tactical advantages like wide overloads when MATS pushes high to support YANKUBA. The Brighton lineup can also achieve numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch when PASCAL moves into advanced positions. The ability to press high in coordinated waves with DANNY and KAORU puts immediate pressure on the opponent and forces mistakes in the build up.
This 4-3-3 relies on ball retention and high intensity pressing. It is ideal for facing teams that play with a low block and struggle to deal with runners in the half spaces.
