Starting Lineup

Paqueta · Henrique · Plata · Rossi · De Arrascaeta · Pulgar · Jorginho · Vitao · Leo Pereira · E. Royal · Leo Ortiz

Flamengo operates with a 5-4-1 formation designed to be defensively solid and rely on vertical transitions. This lineup focuses on controlling space in the middle of the pitch while waiting for the right moment to strike on the break. It is a system built to absorb pressure and use wide channels once the opponent commits too many men forward.

Henrique stays between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back line functions as a back five where Jorginho and Pulgar act as the central defenders. Jorginho provides coverage while Pulgar uses his strength to intercept passes and win aerial duels. De Arrascaeta sits in the middle of that trio to help build play from the back. On the flanks, Paqueta and Plata act as wing backs who are tasked with tracking back to defend deep and then making runs to overlap when the team wins the ball.

The midfield consists of a flat four that provides a block to prevent central penetration. Leo Ortiz and E. Royal occupy the wide midfield roles to help cover the flanks. In the center, Leo Pereira and Vitao work to shield the defense and break lines with their passing. Leo Pereira drives the ball forward to connect the defense to the attack while Vitao holds his position to stop counter attacks. This unit shifts across the pitch to stay compact and block passing lanes.

Rossi operates as a lone striker at the top of the formation. He must hold up the ball to allow the midfield and wing backs to push up the pitch. The attack is built through quick transitions where Rossi uses his presence to pull defenders away. The wide players, Leo Ortiz and E. Royal, push into advanced positions to provide width and cross the ball into the box. This movement creates space for Rossi to turn and face the goal.

Flamengo gains a tactical advantage through their compactness when defending deep in their own half. The five defenders and four midfielders make it very hard for opponents to find space between the lines. Another strength is the ability to use wide overloads once Paqueta and Plata step up into the final third. This forces the opposing wingers to track back and prevents them from attacking freely.

This 5-4-1 formation relies on a disciplined defensive block and quick counter attacks. It is best suited for matches against dominant teams that control possession and leave space behind their high defensive line.
