Eintracht Frankfurt Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Brown · Theate · Koch · Kristensen · Højlund · Larsson · Götze · Uzun · Burkardt · Doan · ZettererEintracht Frankfurt utilizes a 2-5-3 formation that focuses on high pressing and verticality. This lineup is built to dominate the middle of the pitch and quickly move the ball into the final third. The goal is to squeeze the opponent in their own half and create constant pressure through a heavy central presence.
Zetterer acts as the lone goalkeeper behind a very narrow defensive line. Koch and Theate operate as the two central defenders in a high line to intercept long balls and compress the space. Because there are no traditional full backs, Koch and Theate must be ready to step up and cover the wide areas if the midfield is bypassed. The defensive unit works as a tight block that relies on the midfield to stop threats before they reach the back two.
The midfield is a dense block of five players designed to control the rhythm of the game. Kristensen and Brown form a double pivot to shield the defense and break up play. Højlund and Larsson act as the central engines, driving forward to connect the defense with the attackers. Götze operates as an attacking ten, sitting in the pocket to create chances and slip through balls to the front line. This five man midfield ensures Eintracht Frankfurt can pass through or around the center of the pitch with ease.
The attacking front line consists of three players working in close proximity. Burkardt leads the way as the lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and lead the press from the front. Uzun and Doan act as wide attackers, cutting inside from the wings to create central overloads. This movement pulls the opposing defense apart, creating space for Götze to run into. The forwards press in coordinated waves to force turnovers high up the pitch.
This formation offers significant tactical advantages by creating numerical superiority in the center of the pitch. The midfield five can easily overwhelm a standard three man midfield, allowing the team to win second balls and control possession. Another strength is the ability to isolate players in one on one situations when Doan and Uzun cut inside, forcing defenders to step out of position. This creates a very compact and difficult unit to play against in the middle third.
The 2-5-3 formation creates an aggressive identity centered on central control and high pressing. It is a formation best suited for games where the team wants to pin a low block opponent into their own half.
