Arsenal use a 5-2-3 formation that focuses on a high press and verticality. This lineup is built to control much of the pitch by using wide players to stretch the opposition while maintaining a strong central presence. The team aims to win the ball high up the pitch and immediately look to break the line through quick passes.

Raya acts as the last line of defense, playing a key role in the build up. Behind a central trio of Zubimendi, Gabriel, and Saliba, the defense remains very hard to break down. Gabriel and Saliba provide aerial strength and cover for each other, while Zubimendi sits deeper to intercept passes and help build play. Calafiori plays as the left wing back to provide width and push up the pitch, while Timber operates on the right side to overlap and cross. The back five stays compact to block passing lanes and protect the middle.

The midfield consists of a two man unit featuring Rice and Ødegaard. Rice plays a deep role to shield the defense and tackle opponents in the middle, while Ødegaard uses his passing range to connect the defense to the attack. These two players must work hard to track back when the ball is lost and push up to support the front three. They act as the engine that drives the ball forward during transitions.

In the attacking third, the team uses three forwards to pressure the opponent. Saka plays on the right wing to cut inside and create chances, while Gordon operates on the left to provide pace and width. Alvarez plays as the lone striker to hold up the ball and lead the press. This front line works to stay high, forcing the opposition to sit deep and preventing them from building play from the back.

This formation offers many tactical advantages for Arsenal. The use of wing backs like Calafiori and Timber creates wide overloads that allow the team to dominate the flanks. Having a three man center back unit provides great compactness when defending a lead. The team can also use the speed of Saka and Gordon to exploit space in transition when the opposition is caught out of position.

The 5-2-3 formation provides a balance of defensive stability and attacking width. It is best suited for matches against teams that play with high lines or those that struggle to deal with intense pressing.
