These defenders need to hold their line or drop back quickly to deal with long balls.

The midfield operates as a double pivot with Castagnetti and Bastoni working in the center. These two players act as the engine room, tasked with shielding the defense and breaking the lines with their passing. Castagnetti and Bastoni must track back to cover the gaps left by the advancing full backs and help connect the back four to the front four. Their job is to win the ball and immediately look to switch play or find the attackers.

The attacking unit is built around four players that spread the pitch. Ciervo and Shpendi act as wide wingers, ready to cut inside or cross the ball into the box. In the center, Berti and Cerri lead the line as two forwards. This front line is designed to press high against the opposition defenders, forcing mistakes. By having two central strikers, the formation creates constant pressure on the two center backs of the opponent.

Cesena gains tactical advantages through the sheer volume of players in the final third. The wide players, Ciervo and Shpendi, can isolate defenders in one on one situations when they receive the ball. There is also the potential for wide overloads if Ciofi and Corazza overlap with the wingers. This creates many passing lanes for the double pivot to exploit during a quick break.
