Arsenal utilizes a 5-2-3 formation designed to control the game through high pressing and rapid transitions. This lineup focuses on a heavy offensive presence while maintaining a solid foundation to prevent counter attacks. The goal is to dominate the pitch by using width and central ball progression to break down the opposition.

David Raya operates between the posts, acting as the first point of distribution. The back line features a central trio consisting of Martín Zubimendi, William Saliba, and Gabriel Magalhães. Saliba provides recovery speed and calm distribution, while Gabriel Magalhães uses his aerial strength and aggression to win duels. Calafiori plays as the left wing back to provide width and support the attack, whereas Jurriën Timber works on the right side to cover space and overlap. This unit stays compact to deny space between the lines.

The midfield contains a two man unit consisting of Declan Rice and Martin Ødegaard. Declan Rice acts as a single pivot to shield the back three, using his tackling and physical presence to intercept passes. Martin Ødegaard operates further up the pitch, using his passing range and vision to connect the defense to the attackers. They must cover a lot of ground to ensure the team does not get overrun in the center of the park.

In the attacking third, Arsenal employs three forwards. Julián Alvarez leads the line as a lone striker, often dropping deep to hold up the ball and drag defenders out of position. Bukayo Saka stays wide on the right to cut inside and create goal scoring chances, while Khvicha Kvaratskhelia operates on the left to drive at defenders with his dribbling. This front three presses high to force mistakes from the opponent.

One major strength of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads when Calafiori or Jurriën Timber push forward. The team can also achieve numerical superiority in the middle of the pitch when the wing backs tuck in. By using the high press of the front three, Arsenal can win the ball back quickly in the final third and switch play to find open teammates.

This formation provides a heavy defensive block that is hard to penetrate. It is best suited for matches against teams that look to play through the middle or rely on slow build up play.
