Colón plays a 5-4-1 formation that focuses on being defensively solid. This lineup is built to sit deep and deny space to the opposition while waiting for the right moment to strike. The team aims to frustrate attackers by maintaining a compact block and relying on quick transitions when they win the ball back.
Gian Piaggio stays between the posts to command the area. The back line consists of three central defenders with Joaquín Rodríguez acting as a key presence, flanked by Santiago Colidio and Jeremías Lastra. To cover the wide areas, Jonas Ravano and Juan Gosso act as wing backs who must track back to help the center backs. This defensive unit works together to stay narrow and protect the central zone, making it hard for opponents to pass through the middle.
The midfield operates in a flat four to clog the passing lanes. Mateo Cardozo and Iván Barbona occupy the central roles to protect the defense and try to break the line with their passing. On the flanks, Laureano Páez and Tomás Gallay provide width and help the wing backs when the team loses possession. This midfield group connects the defense to the lone striker by recycling the ball and looking for quick outlets to move up the pitch.
Up front, Iván Ojeda acts as a lone striker tasked with holding up the ball and pressing the opposing defenders. There is very little support from the wide players, so the attack relies on the wing backs, Jonas Ravano and Juan Gosso, to push forward and provide crosses. The movement is designed to pull defenders out of position so the striker can find space to turn or lay the ball off to runners from deep.
One major advantage for Colón is the compactness when defending in a low block. By having five defenders and four midfielders close together, they make it very difficult for the other team to find gaps. Another strength is the ability to use the wing backs to create wide overloads during a sudden transition. This allows the team to switch play quickly and catch the opposition before they can settle into their defensive positions.
This 5-4-1 formation provides a disciplined way to absorb pressure and defend a lead. It is best suited for games where the opponent has high possession and the team needs to rely on defensive stability and counter attacks.
