Augsburg Football Formation
Starting Lineup
FINN (DAHMEN) · NOAHKAI (BANKS) · CÉDRIC (ZESIGER) · ARTHUR (CHAVES) · MARIUS (WOLF) · KRISTIJAN (JAKIC) · HAN-NOAH (MASSENGO) · DIMITRIOS (GIANNOULIS) · MERT (KÖMÜR) · FABIAN (RIEDER) · MICHAEL (GREGORITSCH)Augsburg utilizes a 3-4-3 formation to play a direct and vertical style of football. This lineup is built to use width and quick transitions to catch opponents out of position. The aim is to stay compact in the middle while using the wings to stretch the play.
Finn sits between the three central defenders to provide cover. The back three consists of Arthur on the left, Cédric in the middle, and Noahkai on the right. Arthur and Noahkai must be ready to step up and push into the half spaces when the team moves forward. Cédric acts as the anchor to hold the line and mark the central striker. The unit works to stay close together to prevent through balls.
The midfield operates with a central duo and two wide players. Kristijan and Han-Noah work as the central engine to shield the back three and break the lines with their passing. They must track back to help when the team loses the ball. On the flanks, Marius and Dimitrios act as wing backs who provide the necessary width. They overlap to support the attackers and must run the entire length of the pitch to maintain the team balance.
In the attacking third, Augsburg uses three forwards to pressure the opposition. Mert and Fabian play as wide attackers, with Mert on the left and Fabian on the right. They often cut inside to create space for the wide midfielders. Michael plays as the lone striker to hold up the ball and bring others into the game. The front three press high to force mistakes and win the ball back in the final third.
One major strength of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads. Because Marius and Dimitrios push high, they can overwhelm the opposition full backs. Another advantage is the speed of transition when the team wins the ball deep. The three attackers can quickly move into space to exploit gaps in the defense.
This 3-4-3 lineup focuses on aggressive width and quick vertical play. It is a formation best suited for facing teams that play with a high defensive line.
