When Sundowns lose the ball, these wing backs must track back quickly to form a five man defensive line.

The midfield operates as a central trio designed to control the tempo. M Allende sits in the right channel to connect the defense to the attack with her passing range. N Santos works to shield the back three by intercepting passes and sitting deep. J Adams plays more advanced to drive forward and break the line. This midfield group works to press the opposition and force turnovers in the central zones.

Up front, the team utilizes two forwards to pin the opposition defenders back. I Rayners and B Leon work together as the strike partnership. The two attackers are tasked to press high and force the opposition into mistakes. By having two players up top, the formation creates central presence and forces the opposing center backs to stay deep. This allows the wing backs to overlap and deliver crosses into the box.

One major strength is the ability to create wide overloads when K Mudau and D Lunga push forward. This forces the opposing wingers to track back and leaves them tired. Another advantage is the compactness when defending, as the three central midfielders and three center backs occupy all the critical passing lanes. This makes it hard for opponents to play through the middle.
