Starting Lineup
TIAGO PEREIRA (CARDOSO) · FABIO (CHIARODIA) · MARVIN (FRIEDRICH) · KOTA (TAKAI) · NATHAN (NGOUMOU) · LUKAS (ULLRICH) · KEVIN (STÖGER) · FLORIAN (NEUHAUS) · FRANCK (HONORAT) · HUGO (BOLIN) · TIM (KLEINDIENST)Borussia M'gladbach utilizes a 3-4-3 formation to play a very direct and vertical game. This lineup is built to press opponents high up the pitch and use quick transitions to catch defenses out of position. The goal is to control large areas of the pitch through wide presence and aggressive movement forward.
Tiago Pereira acts as the last line of defense in goal. Behind him, a back three consisting of Marvin, Kota, and Fabio provides the base for the defensive unit. Marvin sits central to command the area, while Kota and Fabio cover the wide channels of the defense. This back line can step up to squeeze the space in the middle or drop deep to protect the space behind when the team is under pressure.
The midfield works in a four man block to control the center and the flanks. Kevin and Florian occupy the central roles to shield the defense and connect the play to the front line. They must work hard to intercept passes and drive the ball forward into the final third. On the edges, Nathan and Lukas act as wide midfielders who can push up to support the attack or track back to help the defenders.
The attacking unit consists of three players who focus on stretching the opposition. Tim leads the line as the lone striker to hold up the ball and make runs behind the defense. Franck and Hugo operate as wide attackers who often cut inside to create goal scoring chances. These three forwards press the opposition back line to prevent them from building play from the back.
Borussia M'gladbach gains a massive advantage through wide overloads when Nathan and Lukas push high alongside the wingers. This forces the opposing full backs into difficult decisions. The formation also allows for a high press in coordinated waves, making it very hard for opponents to play out of their own half. The presence of three central defenders also provides compactness when defending against counter attacks.
This 3-4-3 formation focuses on aggressive pressing and rapid vertical play. It is best suited for matches where the team wants to overwhelm the opponent in wide areas and exploit space behind a high defensive line.
