Starting Lineup

LUCAS (CHEVALIER) · ACHRAF (HAKIMI) · MARQUINHOS · WILLIAN (PACHO) · NUNO (MENDES) · FABIÁN (RUIZ) · VITINHA · JOÃO (NEVES) · DÉSIRÉ (DOUÉ) · KHVICHA (KVARATSKHELIA) · OUSMANE (DEMBÉLÉ)

PSG utilizes a 5-2-3 formation that prioritizes verticality and quick transitions. This lineup is built to exploit wide areas through aggressive wing backs while maintaining a solid base to absorb pressure. The team looks to win the ball in central areas and immediately drive forward to catch the opposition out of position.

LUCAS starts between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back line works as a three man central group consisting of FABIÁN, MARQUINHOS, and WILLIAN. MARQUINHOS provides aerial strength and covers space behind the others, while FABIÁN and WILLIAN stay deep to protect the central zone. NUNO and ACHRAF act as wing backs, pushing high up the pitch to provide width and overlap the attackers. This allows the three center backs to sit deep and block passing lanes when the team loses possession.

The midfield operates as a double pivot to manage the middle of the pitch. VITINHA and JOÃO occupy the two central spots to connect the defense to the front three. VITINHA uses his passing range to break the line and move the ball forward quickly, while JOÃO helps to shield the back three and intercept passes. This pair must track back to cover the spaces left by the wing backs and ensure the team remains compact in the central channel.

PSG employs three attackers to stretch the opponent. OUSMANE plays as the lone striker to hold up the ball and link play, while KHVICHA and DÉSIRÉ operate as wide wingers. KHVICHA looks to cut inside from the left to create shooting opportunities, and DÉSIRÉ uses his pace on the right flank to run behind the defense. The forwards press high to force mistakes and create immediate chances for the advancing wing backs.

One major advantage of this formation is the ability to create wide overloads when NUNO and ACHRAF push forward to support the wingers. This forces the opposition defense to stretch thin. Another strength is the compactness provided by the three center backs, which makes the team very difficult to break down through the middle. The team can also shift quickly from a defensive block to an attacking transition.

This 5-2-3 formation offers a balance between defensive stability and rapid attacking movement. It is best suited for matches against teams that play with a high line and can be punished on the counter.
