Starting Lineup

Toto · Bordigion · Urbani · La palma · Domi · Ventura · Dal molin · Milan · Galeano · Frigo · Aron

Amorebieta utilizes a 5-3-2 formation to establish a defensively solid identity. This lineup is built to play a counter attacking style of football where the team sits deep to deny space in the middle. The focus is on maintaining a compact block and using vertical passes to catch the opponent off guard during transitions.

Toto protects the goal as the foundation of the defense. The back line consists of a central trio with Ventura providing the core presence while La palma and Urbani cover the channels. Domi and Bordigion operate as wing backs on the flanks, tasked to overlap during attacks but they must quickly track back to restore the five man line. This defensive unit works to hold the line, mark opponents, and intercept any dangerous deliveries.

In the middle of the pitch, Dal molin and Milan act as the engine to shield the defense. They occupy the central midfield roles to break up opposition play and win second balls. Galeano plays in the role of an attacking ten, acting as the bridge between the central midfielders and the forwards. This midfield connection allows Dal molin and Milan to pass into Galeano, who can then drive forward or switch play to the wings.

The attacking unit relies on two strikers, Frigo and Aron, to lead the press. They work together to mark opposition center backs and disrupt the buildup. Because there are no traditional wingers, the width is provided by the runs of Domi and Bordigion who push high to cross the ball. Frigo and Aron must hold up the ball to allow the team to move up the pitch and create space in the final third.

One major advantage is the ability to press high in coordinated waves when the ball is lost in the attacking half. Another strength is the compactness when defending, which forces opponents to play wide and cross. The team also benefits from wide overloads from overlapping wing backs, creating two on one situations against the opposition full backs to win the ball back.

The 5-3-2 formation is a resilient way to negate the strengths of possession based teams. It is best suited for games where Amorebieta needs to sit deep and exploit gaps through quick transitions.
