Starting Lineup

Jihlava relies on a 4-5-1 formation to maintain a compact presence across the pitch. This lineup is built to play a defensive style that focuses on controlling the middle of the field and waiting for the right moment to strike. Soukup guards the goal as the last line of defense for Jihlava. In front of him, the back four consists of Haala at right back and Matoušek at left back, while Beneš and Štětka act as the central defenders. Haala and Matoušek stay close to the defensive line to maintain a flat back four, rarely venturing far forward unless the team is in a very advanced position. Beneš and Štětka focus on marking attackers and covering the space behind the full backs to prevent through balls.

The midfield acts as the engine of this formation, utilizing five players to dominate the central areas. Pešek and Čermák sit in front of the defense to shield the back line and intercept passes. They work alongside Lacko, Křehlík, and Křivánek to create a wall of players that is difficult to break through. Lacko, Křehlík, and Křivánek are tasked with connecting the defense to the attack by winning the ball back and immediately finding ways to break the line.

In the attacking phase, the team uses a lone striker, Omotoye, to lead the line. Because the midfield is so crowded, Omotoye must hold up the ball to allow the five midfielders to push up the pitch. The attackers do not play as a wide trio but instead rely on the midfielders to provide support through central runs or late arrivals into the box. The forwards focus on pressing the opponent immediately to force turnovers high up the pitch.

One major advantage of this formation is the numerical superiority in the middle of the park, which makes it very hard for opponents to play through the center. The team can also achieve great compactness when defending, as the distances between the midfield and the defensive unit are kept very small. This makes it easy for the players to shift as a unit and block passing lanes, forcing the opposition to play wide where they are less dangerous.

This 4-5-1 formation is designed to be a defensively solid setup that prioritizes control of the central zone. It is best suited for matches against teams that prefer to dominate possession, allowing Jihlava to absorb pressure and use the midfield mass to disrupt the game.
