Starting Lineup

Cocchi · Luis Henrique · Diouf · Asllani · Massolin · Bonny · Pio Esposito · Pavard · Akanji · Bisseck · Sommer

Inter uses a 3-5-2 formation to control the rhythm of the match. This lineup is built for high pressing and rapid vertical play. The team aims to win the ball back quickly and move it forward into the final third through direct passing and movement.

Sommer stays between the posts to command the area and start attacks with his distribution. The back three features Bisseck, Akanji, and Pavard. Akanji works as a ball playing center back with strong aerial ability and a wide passing range. Pavard and Bisseck stay close to each other to cover the space behind the midfield. They step up to squeeze the play and force the opposition to play long balls.

The midfield is a dense block designed to clog the center. Massolin operates as an attacking ten to connect the lines. Asllani and Diouf act as the engine, with Asllani helping to drive forward while Diouf works to shield the back three. On the edges, Luis Henrique and Cocchi act as wide midfielders. They provide the width by pushing high up the pitch or tracking back to help the defenders when the team loses possession.

The attacking front line uses two strikers, Bonny and Pio Esposito. They press the opposition defenders to prevent easy build up play. Bonny is able to hold up the ball to allow the midfielders to join the attack. Pio Esposito uses his movement to find gaps in the defensive line. The movement of these two forwards creates space for Massolin to run into the box and join the goal threat.

One major strength for Inter is the numerical superiority they achieve in the middle of the pitch. By having five players in the midfield, they can often outnumber the opposition. Another advantage is the ability to create wide overloads when Luis Henrique and Cocchi push up. This forces the opponent to shift across, which eventually opens up gaps in the center for Asllani or Massolin to break the line.

This 3-5-2 formation relies on high intensity and central dominance. It is ideal for facing teams that play a narrow four man midfield and struggle to defend against wide runners and quick transitions.
