Starting Lineup

Al-Ahli (KSA) employs a 5-4-1 formation designed for a compact defensive presence and quick vertical play. The team focuses on sitting deep to protect the central area and looking to break the lines through direct passes when they win the ball back. This lineup is built to absorb pressure and strike on the break, making it very hard to play through the middle.

Toney stays between the posts to command the penalty area. The back line consists of three central defenders with Milliot, Kessié, and Mahrez forming a solid wall in front of the keeper. Kessié provides aerial strength and physicality in the middle of the defense. They must drive forward quickly to support the transition once the ball is recovered.

In the attacking phase, Mendy acts as a lone striker, tasked to hold up the ball and bring others into play. Because there is only one forward, the width comes from the overlapping runs of Galeno and Gonçalves. Demiral and Ibañez often cut inside to create central threats, while Mendy works to pin the opposition defenders back. The team relies on long balls or quick transitions to move the ball from the defensive block to the front line.

This formation offers significant defensive compactness when the team sits deep in a low block. The presence of three central defenders means Al-Ahli (KSA) is very difficult to beat in the air or through central through balls.
